    In September, the Capitol Area Regional Police Testing Consortium took place for those interested in a career in law enforcement.

    APPLICANTS who successfully passed the written and physical fitness tests and who were notified of their continued eligibility in the process (top twenty written scorers) and who wish to apply to the Swatara Township Police Department, need to download and complete the following application form by right-clicking on the link below and selecting “Save Target As…”

    Oral interviews for the top-scoring candidates will be conducted on November 6, 7, 8, 2012.

    General Information for Applicants

    • Per Swatara Township Civil Service regulations only the top twenty scoring candidates on the written examination and who indicated their interest in applying to the Swatara Township Police Department on the Capitol Area Regional Preliminary Testing Applications will be eligible for further processing and examinations.
    • Additional examinations, including but not limited to a physical, psychological, polygraph, and an intensive background investigation will be conducted on finalists for the position. In addition, all candidates who are offered conditional employment with the Township shall meet M.P.O.E.T.C. physical fitness requirements for entrance into the Police Academy.

    Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply and must be 21 years of age upon appointment to the Police Academy. Every applicant for any position in the Police Department shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a citizen of the United States, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer, and be of good moral character. Applicants must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in this Commonwealth, and agree to remain with the Township police force (subject to the probationary period and all other disciplinary and other township rules and regulations) for a minimum period of two years.

    • All appointments are provisional for twelve (12) months: initial salary $42,646.82 per year with insurance, retirement and other fringe benefits provided. During the Academy a bi-weekly stipend of $1200.00 will be paid to each cadet. All equipment and uniforms will be provided.
