On 3-29-2012 at 6:37 PM, Swatara Township Police were dispatched to the 3700 block of Vista Terrace to investigate a suspicious vehicle complaint. Upon arriving at the scene, the suspicious vehicle was located, and identified as a green Ford Taurus. As the officer drove closer to the vehicle, the driver began to pull away. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. The officer learned through county dispatch that the vehicle was listed as “stolen.”

Two Swatara Township Police Officers pursued the vehicle into Paxtang Borough. The vehicle proceeded down a dead-end road where it drove over a grass embankment to evade the pursuing officers. Police officers from other agencies attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle on Derry Street, but the driver continued to flee westbound on Derry Street. Eventually, the vehicle crashed into another citizen’s vehicle at the intersection of Derry Street and 21st Street in Harrisburg City.

Both occupants fled from the vehicle and were pursued on foot by officers. The driver escaped apprehension, but the passenger was taken into custody. He was identified as 27-year-old George Sullivan of 10 North 15th Street, Harrisburg PA. Sullivan was charged by Swatara Township Police with “Theft by receiving stolen property,” “Flight to avoid apprehension,” and “Duty to give information and render aid.” He was arraigned at night court and committed to the Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene in order to conduct the crash investigation. Two of the three occupants of the struck vehicle were transported to the Hershey Medical Center for treatment after being extricated from their vehicle by Fire and EMS personnel. Their condition is unknown at the time of this press release.

Police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the driver of the suspect vehicle. He is described as a black male, about six feet tall, wearing a light-blue button-down shirt. He may have been seen operating the stolen 1995 green Ford Taurus sedan. Anyone with information is urged to call the Swatara Township Police at 717-564-2550.
