    ATM Theft

    Share

On September 20th, 2011, at 2:36 p.m., Swatara Township Police were dispatched to the Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Health Care Center located at 1205 South 28th Street for report of a theft.  Upon arrival, the investigating officer learned that three men had removed the ATM machine from the lobby on a dolly, and loaded it into a dark-colored minivan before making their getaway.  The ATM machine contained an undisclosed amount of currency.  This theft was reported to have occurred on September 19th, at 7:28 p.m.

The investigating officer also learned that the Spring Creek Center had received a phone call minutes before the theft from an individual asking if maintenance personnel had picked-up the ATM machine yet?  This phone call created the false impression that someone was supposed to pick up the ATM machine.  So, when the three men arrived, they were uninterrupted as they loaded the ATM onto a dolly and walked out the front door.

The Swatara Township Police are currently attempting to identify the three individuals who removed the ATM from the Spring Creek Center.  They are described as follows:

    1. Black male, dark complexion, 5’09″ – 5’10″, wearing a red Philadelphia Phillies hat
    2. Black or Hispanic male, light complexion, 6’00″ – 6’02″, wearing a New York Yankees hat.
    3. (At this time, there is no description available for the 3rd male)

Anyone with information relative to the theft from the Spring Creek Center is urged to call the Swatara Township Police at 717-564-2550.

The Police Department would like to get the word out to local businesses which house one of these “portable” ATM’s, in order to prevent the same type of incident from occurring again.  Please call police immediately if you receive a phone call similar to the one received by the Spring Creek Center.
